What do you find different with digital illustration from drawing by hand?

Though similar sketching techniques are used, digital illustration allows a certain level of flexibility as oppose to drawing by hand. For start, you save plenty time by duplicating lines and shapes where possible; elements of your illustration can be separated onto different layers; and reproduction of the finish artwork is possible at different sizes with no loss of quality. But of all the advantages of digitally creating illustrations, the greatest perhaps would be the ease of editing; during the illustration process, modification can be more easily applied.

Yet, hand drawing has its own charm. There’s that freeness in exploring ideas when drawing by hand. It’s a good starting point when approaching a new artwork; a great technique when conceptualizing to get your ideas from mental thoughts to visual thoughts. Most charming, is the added sense of sincerity to your piece. Though digital illustration can achieve photo-realistic images, there is somehow perfection in an imperfect feel.

Even so, there is certainly the option of combining the two techniques to get the best of both worlds!

Show us some digital illustrations that you like. Why do you like them?

I like the realness of the woman in this piece; the details in her hands and lips contrasting with the fiction of an unreal world. This speaks to the graphical reach of digital illustration.

The playful yet nature-like feel of this illustration is often not depicted in  artworks today. In a digital world, illustrators now move toward more illusory pieces. But I somehow find fondness in works like this as it gives a sort of nostalgic feel; somewhat reminiscent of times when artists produced artworks of mostly natural scenes.

Simple but artistic. There's something delicate and human about this illustration. I love the black and white contrast with the pop of pink; it tells a story.  It looks like a photo-realistic image merged with a painting; a good balance in creating a piece that viewers can relate to.

Find a raster image and describe the shapes that could be used to recreate it

Creating this image would employ the use of the ellipse tool to create the  circle and oval shapes for the eyes, water, bubbles and the bowl. Then the pen tool would be use for the other irregular shapes such as the plant, the sandy bottom and to complete the fish.

How has this course assisted with your overall development as a graphic designer?

I have created many artworks using Adobe Photoshop and Indesign but I've always been really hesitant in using Illustrator to produce a full artwork and have thus kept my uses to the bare minimum.

However, this course has been very helpful in removing most of that fear in using Illustrator and worse yet the pen tool. While I am certainly not a master at illustrating, I can now confidently experiment as an amateur illustrator and the best part is I’m having tons of fun while doing so.

I am definitely more knowledgeable on the advantages and uses of Adobe Illustrator as oppose to other design software and I've learnt the uses of tools I wouldn't have considered using before. I will never look at an illustration or even raster images again without thinking about the possible steps in creating it.  But in addition to the many tips and tricks, if there is one other thing that really resonates with me, it’s that logos are best created as vectors.

Blog #9 How has this course assisted with your overall development as a graphic designer?

When registering for this class, I honestly did not know what was required of me. After learning it was a digital class where I would be required to draw, I was a tad bit fearful as I knew I was not the best drawer and my artwork and experience were lacking. That fear slowly eroded as the classes passed and as of now I can say that I although my drawing may not be of the best, my confidence has grown and that I am an amateur graphic designer. This course has taught me perception is subjective and sometimes what is deemed as ugly can truly be an amazing piece of work. In addition, what I learnt was self doubt as a designer will get you no where and that although a deign may not be the best it is your duty as the designer to stand by it, acknowledge the flaws but still the ability to market the product if so needed. My development to this point has grown and even though I may be an amateur designer, I can leave this course in May and if further interested to continue designing, I would not be afraid to pick up an artbook and try to create a design or better yet go into the field of designing

What do you find different with digital illustration from drawing by hand? (620054610)

What I find different about digital illustration from drawing with hand is that with digital illustration you are able to expand on your creativity. Yes, drawing with hand can sometimes be more artistic and it speaks in ways the digital cannot but with the vast amount of tools that are within ones reach when designing using illustrator is mind boggling. Personally for me, I would more associate drawing with mere sketches where a draft of the actual design piece is done and illustrator would be the end product. In addition, what else I find different with digital illustration from drawing with hand is that using illustrator or any other design software, an individual has more free roam to develop their design even further than it already is for example, adobe illustrator caters more to cartoon like graphics and can even be pushed to the realm of realism. Unlike drawing with hand, where the individual is stifled by mere pen, paper, and eraser.

the shapes that can be used to recreate this raster image are the ellipse, the rounded rectangle and the triangle.

What do you find different with digital illustration from drawing by hand?

using illustrator is a little more complex than drawing by hand, however there are more benefits to using illustrator. for one when you would constantly have to erase and start over to get a curve right you can do it much faster by using the pen tool and twisting the node a little before releasing it, and using the pen or pencil tool makes tracing a much speedier process for art pieces you want to recreate a part of it. also with illustrator it is a lot less frustrating to transfer your art piece to another platform to add effects to it because most of the effects are already in illustrator, and begin an adobe product what's done in illustrator can be transferred to and improved in other illustrator products. in addition to that color selection is much easier.

How has this course assisted with your overall development as a graphic designer?

i don't even know where to begin. participating in this course has taught me several things, the most important i will say is to never doubt yourself or work, because if you don't believe in yourself why should anyone else. this course has also taught me how to take a simple idea from my mind, to a sketch pad, then turn it into something far more interesting. with assignments like the pointillism inspired shape assignment and the upcoming water animals assignment i have learned that you can't exactly be wrong with any art piece you create art is what you perceive it as, and only when you sit down and conceptualize you really want create it will other be able to see it the way you do or be able to appreciate it. also what is an art piece without a story behind it, the most frustrating thing personally for me is to ask someone what was there inspiration only to find out they really don't know or just did it because they had to that kind of turns me off knowing i saw so much more. this is why research is important if not having a story behind your art can turn a newbie like me off what say a more experienced artist. researching your topic for creation before making your art allows you to not only have a story behind it be understand it on a deeper level that also helps you to make a better piece. finally this course has taught me to challenge myself, if i want something done instead of waiting around for someone else to do it why not take matters into your own hand and try and do it for yourself, finding online tutorials are easy and the tools in illustrator with a practice are simple to use. so in all this course has helped me to grow as a graphic artist, it has helped me to understand just how much work is put into even something as simple as a company logo, it has taught me the importance of conceptualizing and researching as well as to always challenge myself, never doubt myself, and be able to follow my own initiative.

Why use Adobe illustrator over other Adobe software?

in my opinion Adobe illustrator allows both new and old graphic artists to grow and experiment with new tools and ideas. being new to this world of the graphic artist adobe illustrator really was the best software to start of with. though using some of the tools are challenging, it comes with the territory. some of the tools i have seriously found challenging to date is the pen tool, and at first the mesh tool since i couldn't really get the  mesh how i wanted it at first but other time they have become a little easier and i find that i'm learning alot of new things rather quickly it's just that it will take a little time to master them. another thing i learned to do with adobe illustrator is to do 3D art pieces. granted it is still in my list of things i haven't quite got a hang of yet but Rome wasn't built in a day. Adobe illustrator allows graphic artists both new and old to take an idea from  just that an idea and turn it into something truly beautiful, it allows you to expand your horizon and improve yourself as a graphic artist

Blog #9 How has this course assisted with your overall development as a graphic designer?

Before this course I did not even know about adobe illustrator honestly, I only knew about the"badword". This course has taught me how to take my hand drawn sketches and turn them into digital illustrations which I can further manipulate and preserve even better. I am now able to utilize my laptop for something productive other than facebook and twitter which I frequent. Seeing my designs on the screen and knowing I created it has done a lot for my self esteem. Coming into the course i dreaded it at first because I thought I was not capable of getting through, I thought everyone would excel and i wouldn't but hearing great critiques about my assignments made me realise I was just as good as anyone else. This course has made me more confident in my work and that is one of the most essential qualities for a graphic designer, confidence. If the designer is not confident in their work then the client (s) won't be either. Thanks so much for providing the course because now i have an additional skill and a new perspective of myself.

Why use Adobe Illustrator over other Adobe software?

620024774

Graphic designers work on their designs using different programs but Adobe Illustrator is the most useful it is  used for creating and editing vector based illustrations such as logos and brand marks or other design elements. Vector graphics are scalable images that can be sized as small or as large as you need them to be, and still maintain their resolution and clarity.
It is also used to create multi-page documents for items like brochures or annual reports,

Some reasons why adobe illustrator is the best:

·        With Adobe Illustrator, you have the freedom to create designs. You could express your ideas in whatever way you want for you will really start from scratch. You are given the chance to create anything you want to make with the tools in Illustrator. For sure, whatever design you would like to do, it will always turn out well

·        Objects and drawings could be done realistically in Adobe Illustrator. Using the gradient tool and mesh tool, you can make objects look real. These tools can help create smooth surfaces and great shadings. You can also give emphasis to some details in the drawing. The result of your work will surely impress and amaze clients.

·         With Adobe Illustrator’s powerful grid system, you can easily draw icon graphics using different shapes. You just simply fit circles, squares, rectangles and other shapes into a grid. It is very easy to color them and to arrange those using tools in Illustrator. You will surely enjoy using this program in creating icons for you will achieve your desired output.

There is no awful way to use illustrator and that’s what makes it the best software in the adobe line

Why use Adobe Illustrator over other Adobe software?

Adobe illustrator personally to me is a very important tool for upcoming and even older designers. This is because adobe illustrator offers so much especially within the realm of vector drawings or designs. Also with adobe illustrator it can be said to be an all in one software where majority if not all of a designers tools are a click away. The capabilities of illustrator extend beyond other adobe software that I have explored so far, and with each class I learn a little more about what illustrator can do. One of the key tools in illustrator is the pen tool which with the correct designer in hand can manipulate designs to something totally new. Adobe illustrator to me allows a designer the extend beyond the pen and paper in ways other software can't and it gives a designer the craving to push themselves to the limit of greatness.

Why use Adobe Illustrator over other Adobe software?

Adobe illustrator allows an individual to create technical illustrations, abstract drawings, graphics and webpage designs. This unique illustrator focuses more on the artists' visions and interpretations instead of focusing on editing. This makes adobe illustrator a great tool for persons who prefer to work with their own ideas and experiment because the wide range of tools and options that adobe illustrator comprises of, allows for persons to not only create their own visions, but they can also add twists that they never thought off initially. Anyone can learn to edit a photo and use other Adobe software to edit these photos but not everyone can be creative and not all software allows a person to be as creative as Adobe illustrator making it the ideal choice  for creativeness.

Find a raster image and describe the shapes that could be used to recreate it

Ovals could be used to create the eyes, brow bones, nose, stomach area and spots on its stomach. The stokes on the stomach and eyes would be removed.  A rectangle and oval could be used to create the ears. An oval could be used to create the bottom half of the mouth and a rounded rectangle to create the top.

Why use Adobe Illustrator over other Adobe software?

Adobe Illustrator unlike other great tools adobe has in its harness is one that was built mainly for the act of CREATING and editing designs using vectors technology unlike others that are raster based and serve to manipulate images. This is why the Adobe Illustrator has the edge. It is like a specialist doctor in a room of general practitioners.

Find a raster image and describe the shapes that could be used to recreate it.

The Shapes that could be used to create this image would be mainly that of the ellipse shape tool and alternately pressing shift to create a circle. We can see the circle outline being used to create the beach ball outline and a ellipse shape for the button on the ball. We can also see the ellipse tool again when we see the rim and base of the bucket.

Blog #7 - Why use Adobe Illustrator over other Adobe software?

Here are a few reasons:

Illustrator was designed to create and edit vector-base images. Therefore, its vector capabilities are incomparable to the limited options offered in other Adobe software.

As vector artworks, Illustrator also creates images that are scalable to as small or large as needed and it retains the resolution. This is highly important for large prints or if there is a need to enlarge your artwork; blurring will not occur as oppose to using a raster-based software.

Illustrator has a more extensive type tool that allows greater manipulation of text. For example being able to manipulate individual anchor points of each letter style;  create outlines to convert text to an editable vector;  and the type on a path option.

The drawing capabilities of Illustrator are simply more powerful. The pen tool for example works wonders in Illustrator. Plus there are tons of amazing features such as the pathfinder panel that add versatility in creating images.
