How has this course assisted with your overall development ?
This course has helped to edify me in the world of digital design as I was not too versed on the art. I was more of a free hand artist but now those skills can be applied with more precision and accuracy. This course has allowed me to explore a world formerly unfamiliar to me .
How can digital illustration be used on the web?
Digital illustration may be used in a myriad of ways on the web. It is used in advertisements in making them effective and giving them aesthetic appeal ,in the construction of websites, in promotional events or awareness programs.
Digital illustration is used to simplify and elaborate textual messages by providing visual appeal to its audience.

the most interesting tool
The tool I find most interesting is the gradient mesh tool . I find this tool interesting as it lifts whatever image being created off the page and gives it depth ;creating a sort of photo-realism for the image. It also allows colours on an object to have perspective ,showing where light hits the object and provides a three dimensional effect for the image. Images come to life with this tool.
What do you find different with digital illustration from drawing by hand?
Drawing by hand ,i find is a more controlled way of getting my drawing the way I want it to be while digital illustration requires a knowledge of what tools to use to create a certain type of image . However digital illustration allows for perfection in drawing if its is done correctly. A circle is a perfect circle ,no erasing or adjusting any lopsided shapes or lines (unless you want them to be lopsided) .
The possibilities of results that can be achieved using digital illustration can be great ,while your drawing by hand ,may not be as perfect as you would like. The tools provided in digital illustration can allow an artist to express his wildest imaginations with accuracy and precision.

Recreating raster image
To recreate this simple raster image one would have to use a collage of rectangles and squares to make the entire body of the box character .Circles for his eyes and a triangle for his mouth ,a circle would also be used to create the ball and hexagon shapes for the black sections of the ball. A semi-circle could also be used for the small section of a bicycle wheel seen in the background of the image.

How has this course assisted with your overall development as a graphic designer?
I started MDIA1002 knowing absoutely nothing about graphic design. This course has given me a very good foundation, allowing me to develop further on my own. The resources provided to me by my lecturer have also helped to guide me and become a better graphic designer.
What do you find different with digital illustration from drawing by hand?
At first I saw illustrator as a great hindrance to the flow in my creativity. However, with a lot of practice and after learning to use the other tools, it has actually become somewhat more effective. I have come to discover that a lot of things that can be done digitally are not as easily done manually, such as the drawing of shapes etc. It also creates more room for accuracy, with the guidelines, rulers and scalability that it offers (being able to make the image much larger in order to focus more on something specific)
When I look at digital illustrations created by other artists, I am able to see the potential for myself to create my own great designs, that I may not have been able to have done otherwise.

Why Use Adobe Illustrator over other Adobe software
Each Adobe product is built to satisfy a particular objective, and therefore each has its own strengths. However Adobe Illustrator was built with persons that want to create their own original art pieces in mind. Unlike, for example Adobe Photoshop, it comes with specific and more advanced tools to make this creative process much easier than any other software would. It allows more ideas to flow, as artists have everything they need at their disposal in this one package.
Adobe Illustrator being vector based makes it easier to manipulate and edit your images. Another major advantage is that the quality of vector based images it is able to create remains true, so no matter how big or small you make the image, it will not become distorted or pixelated.
You are also able to vectorize images using the live trace tool, allowing a graphic designer to manipulate an image with much more accuracy.

illustrator Vs Everything else.
Illustrator only most other adobe products primarily works with vector images. This means these images are easily scalable without any reduction in quality and is preferred for the creation of banners, logos and business cards.
Photoshop which is often used by designers to create these files primarily works with raster images which are made up of pixels hence the larger you scale these images up the greater the lose of quality of the image. Also the file size becomes exponentially greater. This is an issue that does not plague Illustrator and it's files.

Digital Illustration on the Web
Digital illustration can be used to create logos, web tunes, banners, and backgrounds for websites that are easily scalable to different screens and just look damn good.
Digital Illustration Vs. Drawing by Hand
I find it easier to bring out a concept in digital illustration once you have a base line, a free hand sketch to go off and to outline digitally but it is much easier to start from scratch using your hand.
I don't think it's really a versus situation, it's more like a it goes hand in hand kind of situation. You create your concept by hand and sketch it out then use digital illustration methods to bring that concept out to its fullest potential.

Shapes Raster recreation
To recreate the image above the use of squares , circles , and rectangles alone could be used to completely recreate the image.
Illustrations I love
This illustration by Wen-M is just amazing, the level of detail on the armor is just beyond incredible. I really like the intricacy of the entire piece.
Here another piece by Wen-M. Again level of detail just whoa.
Most Interesting Tool to Date (out of date)
The most interesting tool we had been introduced to back then was the pen tool but to date it has to be the gradient mesh tool. Gradient mesh just makes everything look amazing, if you know how to use it that is. I mean it makes things like this possible :
One tool to Rule Them all - Pen Tool
Why would i use the pen tool over the line tool, shapes etc. First and most importantly the pen tool offers a level of freedom that predefined tools do not, a square will always be a square, a star a star (unless you use the mesh tool) but the pen tool allows you to draw all sorts of neat shapes and curves that can help your illustration come out of the 2d, flat simple shapes era
My favorite illustrator (620024535) - Wen M
I don't know this guy's real name but he is an illustrator whose work i noticed on popular art site deviantart.com. I love his work because even though it all started from pen and paper it's so incredibly detailed and beautiful.
He has a habit of creating intricate scenes, armor and characters which highlight the level of his skill. He was the one that sort of inspired me to continue drawing and try to learn illustrator to bring those drawings to life. Below is one of his pieces.

Development 620024535
I actually chose this course because i was and still am very interested in computer generated and physical art. I had taught myself how to use photoshop a while back and used it to do everything from photo manipulation, newsletters etc. However because i was using photoshop i had not realized that somethings are better made in other applications were better suited to the task. As such this course has helped me to better improve my technique and to use the most suitable software and techniques to make business cards flyers and more.
Oh and self promotion is key so here is some of my work lol.

How has this course assisted with your overall development as a graphic designer?(620024774)
Better graphic designer would not be the word but It better said that i am almost there . The Graphic design world was pretty new to me. However i quickly learned tutorial after tutorial. I became more comfortable. Learning the different tools and how to apply them to my designs. The course has aided in transforming skills that were non-existent. Allowed me to embrace my inner creativity. Leaned techniques that i could not of picked up if it weren't a student teacher interface i can honestly say that now im able to do poster, flyers, business card i can safely said that I am a product of MDIA1002.

How can digital illustration be used on the web?
there are many different ways in which digital illustration can be used on the web. some of these ways are for animation, advertisements and also for webpages, or just for humor. animation and humor in a way falls under the same category given that people use animations for comedy or just to express a view in an informal way, however aside from animation people can use digital illustrations to make web comics like romantically apocalyptic or just to make a picture. digital illustrations can also be used as advertisements to showcase a company or a product like for example a video game company like naughty dog would advertise upcoming games like the last of us or uncharted with digital illustrations. all in all there are many ways in which web illustrations can be used on the web. they ultimately make things look more attractive especially to the younger generation, as well as they showcase the talent of the artist.
